    Car inspection for taxis in Georgia: intervals, cost and fines

    Car inspection in Georgia: intervals and cost

    Who needs an inspection

    Every car registered and in use in Georgia needs a periodic technical inspection at an accredited centre. You can use any centre, wherever the car is registered.

    This is set by Article 11 of the Law on Road Traffic. How often and at what price is set by Government Resolution No. 37.

    How often

    A taxi: first after one year, then every 6 months. A private car: first after 4 years, then every 2 years, and every year from 8 years old.

    Intervals for a passenger car (M1):

    In Tbilisi a category B taxi permit is cancelled if the car has not passed its inspection on the taxi interval, and a cancelled permit cannot be restored. More in our taxi permit article.

    What it costs

    An inspection for a passenger car costs 60 GEL, taxi or private. A repeat inspection for a taxi is 20 GEL.

    The price is set by the resolution, not by each centre. For a fully electric car it is 48 GEL, and 15 GEL for a repeat.

    What is checked

    Identification, brakes, steering, visibility, lights and electrics, axles, wheels and suspension, chassis, other equipment, and emissions and noise.

    The inspection covers these groups:

    • identification;
    • braking system;
    • steering;
    • visibility;
    • lamps, reflectors and electrical equipment;
    • axles, wheels, tyres and suspension;
    • chassis;
    • other equipment;
    • emissions and noise.

    What to bring

    A clean car, the registration certificate or a copy, and proof that you paid.

    The list of accredited centres is on the Accreditation Centre's website, gac.gov.ge: choose periodic technical inspection centres.

    If the car fails

    A major or dangerous defect means a fail. You have 30 calendar days for a repeat inspection; after that, a full inspection at the full price.

    Fix what is written in the report and come back within 30 days. For a taxi, the repeat inspection costs 20 GEL.

    The fine without an inspection

    Driving a car without a valid inspection is fined 50 GEL. Repeat offences cost more.

    The fines are set by Article 118 of the Code of Administrative Offences. If you do not pay on time a surcharge is added, and leaving it unpaid can lead to a 6-month driving licence suspension.

    Inspection versus Yandex photo control

    They are two different checks. The inspection is a state requirement done at an accredited centre; photo control is Yandex's own check in the app.

    How to pass photo control is in our photo control guide.

    This article is a short summary of the rules as of 14 October 2026. The official texts are on matsne.gov.ge, and they are what applies.
